Brown Paper is not only used for wrapping!

StampinUp always pack their parcels with brown paper.  I use it as a ‘mat’ on my desk as I stamp but I have found another way to use up the brown paper.  Use it in card making – here is the proof.

The flowers are made using brown paper!  Nifty eh?

Use three layers of brown paper and place on the die.

 Use a sponge and dab on colour.  Doesn’t look like brown paper!

INK:  Not Quite Navy
PAPER:  Base – Crumb Cake, Not Quite Navy – bird and leaves, Three layers of brown paper!
PUNCHES:  Build a Bird, 1/2″ circle, Corner

Have fun, using brown paper and a favourite die.

How to Quilt – but using paper!

Someone said about quilting – “Cut material into bits to only have to sew the bits back together”.  Must have been a husband who made that comment!

Anyway, the ‘in-thing’ in cardmakeing is ‘Quilting’.  Here is a card using the quilting technique.

STAMP SET: Happiest Birthday Wishes (Hostess)
INK: Pear Pizzaz
PAPER:  Base – Pear Pizzaz, extras for punched blossoms and puched flower
WHISPER WHITE: 1 5/8″ strip to cut 4, 1 5/8 squares.  Scrap for decorative punch.
BLACK: 3 3/4″ square.  Strip for Decorative punch and punched flowers.
PUNCHES: Decorative, Itty Bitty Shapes (flower), Triple-Blossom Bouquet
EMBOSSING FOLDER:  Square Lattice

CASED!!

The following card was taken (cased) from our latest catalogue.  I wanted to point out that the catalogue not only showcases Stampin Up! products  but it also has LOTS and LOTS card samples.

VERSION #1

Ok, can you spot the differences?  Casing doesn’t have to be exact.  The flowers are the same!   (There was a lot of stamping of flowers and then cutting them out.  The large flower alone, has four layers!)

Leaves:  Certainly Celery
Sentiment:  Very Vanilla
Flowers:  Cherry Cobbler.
PUNCHES:
3/4″ circle, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle, Spiral (retired)

So what is different with this one?  I used Designer Series Paper instead of the Embossing Folder.  Also a different sentiment and a bit of ribbon.  Background stamping on this card by using the butterfly that comes in the stamp set I used.

So…next time, if you want some inspiration, have a look in your catalogue! I did.

Wisteria Wonder

Just love SU’s new In-Colours and Wisteria Wonder is my favorite! Here is a card I made using this colour.

STAMP SET(s):  Medallion, For Everything

 INKS:  Basic Grey, Champagne Mist

PAPER:  Basic Grey, Old Olive, Wisteria Wonder

DIE: Little Leaves

PUNCHES:  3/4” circle punch,  Lace Ribbon Border, Scallop Oval, small and large scallop circles

Popped Rose

This  idea came from Technique Junkies called “Popped Embossing Tutorial“.

I changed it “just a little” 🙂

STAMP SET:  Short & Sweet, En Francais
INK:  Chocolate Chip
WATER COLOUR PENCILS:  Three shades of Pink
PAPER:  Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip
EMBOSSING FOLDER:  Manhattan Flower
EXTRAS:  Big Shot, Aqua Pen, Dotto

Chocolate Chip (Base): layer 3 3/8″ x 3 7/8″
Whisper White: 3 1/4″ x 3 3/4″; 3″ x 3 1/2″
Pretty Pink:  4″ x 5″

  • Using Dotto, centre Whisper White onto the Pretty in Pink Layer
  • Place together into the embossing folder and put through the Big Shot.  (Don’t worry about the line when you separate the two pieces – it will be covered by the Chocolate Chip)
  • COLOURING THE ROSE:  Using the pencils and the aqua pen, colour the rose but not the embossed lines of the rose.  Leave them white.  I like to ‘pick’ the colour from the pencil nib using the aqua pen.  I find that I have more control of the colour that way.  Do not have too much water flow.
  • Let dry (or use the heat gun)
  • Flatten the embossing by inserting it through the Big Shot.  Same sandwich that was used to emboss BUT with lay the piece ON TOP of the embossing folder!
  • Stamp with En Francais, using Chocolate Chip Ink
  • I wanted the rose to have the embossed white lines again (not flattened) so I put the rose back into the embossing folder making sure that the lines matched.

The “look” after re-embossing

See how the coloured rose is matched with the pink layer.  See – no line!!  The Chocolate Chip layer had hidden the line!  (This is the first card that I did – hence the embossed lines on the rose are coloured.  You might like this look better?)

 

Faux Silk

Quick and easy card using the ‘Faux Silk’ technique.

I used Elegant eggplant and Old Olive….just love the combo.

STAMP SET:  Because I Care
INK:  Elegant Eggplant
MARKERS:  Elegant Eggplant, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip
PAPER:  Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive, Confetti Cream
PUNCHES:  Wide Oval, Large Oval, Scallop Trim Border
EXTRAS:  White Tissue paper, Glue Stick, stamp-a-ma-jig

My Friend Alison made the following card.  Take a close look at the butterfly.

She used a shiny, see through material (Ok, I am a card-maker, not a sewer… I have to take out my sewing machine manual, every time I have to use the machine!! 🙂 )
