CASED!!

The following card was taken (cased) from our latest catalogue.  I wanted to point out that the catalogue not only showcases Stampin Up! products  but it also has LOTS and LOTS card samples.

Take a look at page 82.

VERSION #1

Ok, can you spot the differences?  Casing doesn’t have to be exact.  The flowers are the same!   (There was a lot of stamping of flowers and then cutting them out.  The large flower alone, has four layers!)

STAMP SET:  Flower Fest

BASE:  Early Espresso
Leaves:  Certainly Celery
Sentiment:  Very Vanilla
Flowers:  Cherry Cobbler.
PUNCHES:
3/4″ circle, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle, Spiral (retired)
INK:  Early Espresso, Wild Wasabi
EMBOSSING FOLDER:  Dots
EXTRAS:  Glue Pen, Glitter, Sponge, Scissors

VERSION #2

So what is different with this one?  I used Designer Series Paper instead of the Embossing Folder.  Also a different sentiment and a bit of ribbon.  Background stamping on this card by using the butterfly that comes in the stamp set I used.

So…next time, if you want some inspiration, have a look in your catalogue! I did.

Popped Rose

This  idea came from Technique Junkies called “Popped Embossing Tutorial“.

I changed it “just a little” 🙂

STAMP SET:  Short & Sweet, En Francais
INK:  Chocolate Chip
WATER COLOUR PENCILS:  Three shades of Pink
PAPER:  Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip
EMBOSSING FOLDER:  Manhattan Flower
EXTRAS:  Big Shot, Aqua Pen, Dotto

Chocolate Chip (Base): layer 3 3/8″ x 3 7/8″
Whisper White: 3 1/4″ x 3 3/4″; 3″ x 3 1/2″
Pretty Pink:  4″ x 5″

  • Using Dotto, centre Whisper White onto the Pretty in Pink Layer
  • Place together into the embossing folder and put through the Big Shot.  (Don’t worry about the line when you separate the two pieces – it will be covered by the Chocolate Chip)
  • COLOURING THE ROSE:  Using the pencils and the aqua pen, colour the rose but not the embossed lines of the rose.  Leave them white.  I like to ‘pick’ the colour from the pencil nib using the aqua pen.  I find that I have more control of the colour that way.  Do not have too much water flow.
  • Let dry (or use the heat gun)
  • Flatten the embossing by inserting it through the Big Shot.  Same sandwich that was used to emboss BUT with lay the piece ON TOP of the embossing folder!
  • Stamp with En Francais, using Chocolate Chip Ink
  • I wanted the rose to have the embossed white lines again (not flattened) so I put the rose back into the embossing folder making sure that the lines matched.

The “look” after re-embossing

See how the coloured rose is matched with the pink layer.  See – no line!!  The Chocolate Chip layer had hidden the line!  (This is the first card that I did – hence the embossed lines on the rose are coloured.  You might like this look better?)

Faux Silk

Quick and easy card using the ‘Faux Silk’ technique.

I used Elegant eggplant and Old Olive….just love the combo.

STAMP SET:  Because I Care
INK:  Elegant Eggplant
MARKERS:  Elegant Eggplant, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip
PAPER:  Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive, Confetti Cream
PUNCHES:  Wide Oval, Large Oval, Scallop Trim Border
EXTRAS:  White Tissue paper, Glue Stick, stamp-a-ma-jig

My Friend Alison made the following card.  Take a close look at the butterfly.

Can you see what she has done?  Want a closer look?

She used a shiny, see through material (Ok, I am a card-maker, not a sewer… I have to take out my sewing machine manual, every time I have to use the machine!! 🙂 )

If you know the material, leave a comment so I know!

Anyone for Tea?

I have lots of cards to put up on the blog…. but again, it is that  “time poor” thing!

I NEED A CUPPA – WANT TO JOIN ME?

This is a class card that my ladies did a couple of weeks ago.

Let me say, I DON’T LIKE CAMOMILE TEA but I did like the cover (colours and flowers) and built this card around the package tea.  (So why don’t I like camomile tea?  I was raised on it!!  Had a tummy ache – camomile tea – had a cold – camomile tea.  Mum even rinsed my hair in a camomile solution!!  Now, the smell of camomile makes me want to gag!)

BASE:  8″ x 4″  (Night of Navy)
Pocket: 4″ x 2″  (Night of Navy)
Handle: 2″ x 5″ ( Night of Navy)
Sides:  2″ x 1″ (Score every 1/4″)  (Night of Navy)
Insert:  3 1/2″ x 3″  (Whisper White)
Flowers:  1 1/2″ strip (Whisper White)
Leaves:  #/4″ strip (punch out three)  (Old Olive)
Tag:  1 1/2″ strip  (Daffodil Delight)
Flower centres: Hand-held circle punch (Daffodil Delight)
STAMP SETS:  Great Friend, Curvy Verses
INKS:  Night of Navy, Whisper White
PUNCHES:  Boho Blossoms, Large Tag, Two-step Bird (leaves), 3/8″ circle, Large Oval, Ex-Large Oval
EXTRAS:  Kraft Knife, Steel Ruler, White, strong thread, Score Tool, Sponge, Glue Pen, Glitter, Big Shot, Camomile Tea Bag, Red Sticky Tape, Large Clip

The following pictures show a different colour card stock.  When I finished the card, taking pictures as I made it, I decided that I would try another colour.   So I decided to use Night of Navy.  I didn’t  re-do the pictures (You know, the time poor thingy 🙂 )

Place the card base and pocket together.  secure with a clip.  On the bottom, measure and mark 1/4″ on both sides.  Using a kraft knife and steel ruler, trim both sides.  (Making both sides tapered – like a teacup shape)

Emboss the base, pocket and handle (Speaking of handle – there are two in this picture but on the blue card, I used only one and attached it to the inside/front of the card).

Photo showing how the sides are attached to the pocket and the front of the base.

Make sure that you use a strong adhesive on the bottom of the pocket.  I used red sticky tape.

I used confetti cream to make this card.

ENJOY your cuppa!

No not Christmas in July

BUT I thought it would be a good idea to start creating Christmas cards, so that my Ladies will be ready for Christmas.  Before we know it, it will be Christmas!!

When making Christmas cards, it is better to be able to make them on-mass.  To do this it is wise to use a simple design. This one is quick but looks like it took a lot of time.

Tomorrow, hubby and I are off to Sydney to catch up with our son and his family.  (Can’t wait to give the 2 grandsons, lots of hugs and kisses, spoiling them and “cooking with Nana”. reading bed time stories and them showing us how to turn on the TV and playing DS games!!  🙂 )

I have a few birthday cards that I have made, which I will post while away.

My granddaughter turns 6 this week, so here is the card that I made for her.  I used all SU items except the stamp set…. that I bought in England when we were over there last year.

Water Colouring using our water colouring paper.  (Notice I used my vellum butterflies.  Also the next picture will show how I used Shimmer Paint on the water-colour).

As we will be away for her birthday, we celebrated last night.  She loved all her gifts and was oh hum about the card!!  Well, she’s only 6 and she does have her priorities!  My daughter keeps all the cards, so I know one day she will appreciate the time and effort her Nan made to create a card for her……..

Till next time, have fun ‘playing’.

Hugs

Olga

Let’s Twist!

Looks like a normal card.  Right?  Well it’s not……. 🙂

IT’S A TWISTED CARD!  The Ladies, in both my classes last week, were so quiet!  Not much chatting going on!  It is not a complicated card but there was a lot of cutting out to do.  Mmm…..Give a woman a pair of scissors and it is silence!   (Don’t tell the men)

For the front of the card we used the technique of MASKING.  So masks had to be cut out.  The flowers inside the card had to be cut out too.

Another view

OK…. I used Vellum butterflies (again).  Just love them.  This one has a sparkle!

This give a view of showing how the flowers seem to be behind the main one.  That’s masking!  Ah, isn’t the butterfly beautiful?

NOW FOR THE INSIDE

Two Edges punched.  Method for stamping the foliage – ink and stamp twice or three times without re-inking.

Use Whisper White Ink to stamp  the flowers and let dry before cutting.

Stamp sentiment.  Place flowers around the lower edge.

Notice that all the flowers are attached at different heights.

STAMP SETS:  Curvy Verses, Great Friend, Fast & Fabulous (level 2)
INK:  Real Red, River Rock, Whisper White, Marina Mist, White Shimmer Paint
PAPER:  Pacific Point, Real Red, Whisper White, Marina Mist,
PUNCHES:  Scallop Trim Border, Scallop Trim Edge, Large Oval,
DIE:  Beautiful Wings
EMBOSSING FOLDER:  Final Press

Phew….. Now I think this post deserves a comment or two, don’t you?  (Off to do the housework -yuk)

Swamped with Blooms

Or in other words…..Awash with Flowers – my new stamp set…Love it!

I made two class cards using this stamp set and it will be used again and again.  (So watch out Ladies 🙂 )

CARD #1

I am so just so into butterflies…..  For these ones, I used Vellum. Beautiful.   I edged the butterflies with Perfect Plum then dabbed them with Shimmer, Frost White using a dauber.  The word is …..  DAB on the mist.  I used Tombow to attach them to the card.  (Just a small dot of Tombow not a blob!)

The picture doesn’t really show how striking the vellum looks with the dabs of mist

BASE:  Elegant Eggplant
Perfect Plum:  3 1/2” x 4”
River Rock:   3 1/2” x 1″ (x2)
Whisper White:  3 1/4” x 3 3/4”
Vellum:  2 1/2” x 2 1/4”;  Scrap for small oval

INK:  Shimmer—Frost White, More Mustard, River Rock, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant, VersaMarker

PUNCHES:  Scallop Trim Border, Large Oval

SIZZIX: Beautiful Wings

EXTRAS:   Clear Embossing Powder, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Tombow, Sponge (Perfect Plum), Heat Tool, Pearl

CARD #2

What do you think of the frame?  Neat!  I used 2″ x 2″ squares.  Two squares in Whisper White and two squares in Elegant Eggplant.

Large Flower:  Stamp and cut each petal out and attach with Tombow on the bottom of the petals.  This then enables shaping the petals.

This flower is cut out with a slight edge.  Notice the corner.

 Inside

STAMP SET(s):  Awash with Flowers, Sincere Salutations

INK:  Melon Mambo, River Rock, Elegant Eggplant

PAPER:  Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant

PUNCHES:  Scallop Trim Border, Scallop Trim Edge, 1” circle, Photo Corner

Yes, this set is going to become on of my favourites.
