ELEGANT in BLACK

I showed my ladies, this week, do make this card that has an unusual fold.  With the addition of our Designer Series Paper and  butterflies the result – STUNNING!!

I am so in love with butterflies at the moment – any chance to make a butterfly card…. it’s created 🙂  Let me show you the inside of the card.

NOW SOME “HOW TO”

STEP 1 : Open the folded card.  On the left side of the card, measure 1″ down from the centre and 1″ across from the centre fold.  (Clear as mud I hear you say – hopefully the above picture will give you a better idea.  If not, you’re on your own! 🙂 )  Cut out the wedge/triangle.

Step 2:  Once the cut has been made, turn the card so that the front is facing upwards.  Fold down the flap.  IMPORTANT:  Make sure, that the flap is folded to meet the centre (arrow).  When you have the fold flush with the centre line of the card, take your bone-folder and crease across the flap.  If you try to fold the flap down in one go, you will get an uneven edge at the centre fold and the flap will not sit right.

Step 3: The yellow lines show how I placed the flap into the Embossing Folder.  You may have to move the folder when you put it onto the Big Shot plates.  Make sure that it will go through the rollers without catching your embossing folder or card.  (How do I know this?  Guess 🙂 )

Flap is embossed.  The card is now ready to dress-up!

I attached only the point of the flap to the front of the card.  Sticky strip is a good choice as I didn’t want the flap to ping open!

BUTTERFLIES:  I attached the butterfly using Tombow.

The Large Butterfly is attached by the bottom left-wing to the front of the card.

Use the small butterfly wing to attach to the inside of the card

When the card is opened, the main butterfly is seen from the inside too.  It appears to be floating.  Love it.

Phew… now that was a long post! ( I think I deserve a comment or two!)  🙂 Hugs

Challenge anyone?

I decided that I needed to be challenged so…. I entered a colour challenge!  These are the colours that had to be used in making a card.  Let me say, these are not colours that I would group together.  (Well maybe two or three together but not 5! Plus I added another colour – Confetti White!)  In the end I made two cards.  Mmm, the colour combo does grow on you 🙂

The first card I made, I used a retired stamp set and thought I had better do another one using a current set.  Same colours but two cards that a poles apart.

CARD# 1

Odd, but it isn’t my kind of Style but I am sure that my mother would have loved it.  Can you see what I did with the punch?  Let me show you…

Punched through the card front and added the sentiment to the inside!  Different, eh?

Used a few dimentionals to give height to the sentiment.  Added the yellow card to conceal the ribbon edges.  Also added another yellow strip and flowers.  There is still room to write a message.

Phew….. Now for CARD #2

The Ladies in my Tuesday class will be making a card similar to this one.  The layout and the technique.  Oops, I didn’t take a picture of the inside… it has the sentiment inside the card.

So have the colours grown on you?  Maybe I will use the combo to make a CLASS card?  Mmm, what do you think Ladies?

Come back tomorrow for another card in the series.
THANKS FOR LOOKING….Hugs

Butterflies and Top Note #3

Now when I sat down to make these cards, I didn’t want to ‘think’ for ages on the colour combos.  It was a good exercise for me as I know I would have picked MY FAVORITE colours!  I just grabbed from my stash and explored.  So if you are a Pink person, then this card will be for you.

I just LOVE, LOVE the new DECORATIVE LABEL PUNCH.  This is one punch I will be using time and time again.  Notice that it has an edge?

TIP:  I also edged (framed) the butterfly.  Notice?  I punched out two butterflies in different colours and cut the darker one in half (horizontally  That gave me the pink edge on the top and bottom of the light coloured butterfly layer.

If you wanted the frame to be on the side of the butterfly, again you would punch out two butterflies but this time cut down the centre of the butterfly.  Try it.  I know you will love it.
