The following card was taken (cased) from our latest catalogue.  I wanted to point out that the catalogue not only showcases Stampin Up! products  but it also has LOTS and LOTS card samples.

Take a look at page 82.

Ok, can you spot the differences?  Casing doesn’t have to be exact.  The flowers are the same!   (There was a lot of stamping of flowers and then cutting them out.  The large flower alone, has four layers!)

STAMP SET:  Flower Fest

BASE:  Early Espresso
Leaves:  Certainly Celery
Sentiment:  Very Vanilla
Flowers:  Cherry Cobbler.
3/4″ circle, 2 3/8″ Scallop Circle, Spiral (retired)
INK:  Early Espresso, Wild Wasabi
EXTRAS:  Glue Pen, Glitter, Sponge, Scissors

So what is different with this one?  I used Designer Series Paper instead of the Embossing Folder.  Also a different sentiment and a bit of ribbon.  Background stamping on this card by using the butterfly that comes in the stamp set I used.

So…next time, if you want some inspiration, have a look in your catalogue! I did.

A Mixture of Boxed Cards

I have not been blogging (and I am not going to go through excuses).   I plan to post the cards that we have been doing in class at the end of last year.  So be prepared to receive a few emails over the coming days/weeks as I catch up.

Excellent for enclosing a little something extra!  Here are some different boxed cards…Enjoy

Just use your own favourite colour schemes and stamps

A box for a card

I made a card for a friend’s 40th Birthday and I didn’t want to squash it by putting it into an envelope so I made a box to put it in.

This box was made with Basic Black.  I sponged with Whisper White and Silver to get the ‘metallic’ look.

Oh yes, let’s not forget the vellum butterflies and bling!

BASE:  Basic Black, 11 1/4″ x 7 3/4″
PAPER:  Basic Black, Vellum
INK:  Whisper White, Silver
DIE:  Top Note, Beautiful Wings, Leaves
PUNCHES:  3/4″ Circle, Corner
EXTRA:  Glue Dots, Sponge, 1 large brad, 2 small brads

Now for the card that went inside the box:

Just have to love the Shimmer Vellum Butterflies.

I had originally made a purple card for her (her favourite colour) but when I received the invite, it was back and white.  Also, it was fancy dress – black and white.  Here is the Purple Card.

Classes will commence next week.  Come back to see a ‘card that isn’t a card’!

As I make cards….. everyone expects to receive a hand-made card from me.  (And they should!!)  As my daughter-in-law said….”If I didn’t get a hand-made card from you I would think that you didn’t love me or I had done something wrong”!

I always want to be ready for the birthdays but sometimes….TIME (not enough hours in the day) just runs out!

I had a few birthdays this month and I was flat-out making cards – here is the card I made for my daughter-in-law.

I used, in colour, Peach Parfait, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla and Designer Paper – Peach Parfait (from the Hostess Set)

Just love the wide Ribbon – a little bit just gives the card a lift.

So she knows that I love her! 🙂

This one is for my friend, Alison.  She loves the colour blue.

The Photo, doesn’t really show that the pattern on the butterfly matches the rose underneath it.  If the butterfly wasn’t sponged and lifted off the card, it would have blended on the rose.

Happy Birthday Ali!!

Swamped with Blooms

Or in other words…..Awash with Flowers – my new stamp set…Love it!

I made two class cards using this stamp set and it will be used again and again.  (So watch out Ladies 🙂 )

I am so just so into butterflies…..  For these ones, I used Vellum. Beautiful.   I edged the butterflies with Perfect Plum then dabbed them with Shimmer, Frost White using a dauber.  The word is …..  DAB on the mist.  I used Tombow to attach them to the card.  (Just a small dot of Tombow not a blob!)

The picture doesn’t really show how striking the vellum looks with the dabs of mist

BASE:  Elegant Eggplant
Perfect Plum:  3 1/2” x 4”
River Rock:   3 1/2” x 1″ (x2)
Whisper White:  3 1/4” x 3 3/4”
Vellum:  2 1/2” x 2 1/4”;  Scrap for small oval

INK:  Shimmer—Frost White, More Mustard, River Rock, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant, VersaMarker

PUNCHES:  Scallop Trim Border, Large Oval

SIZZIX: Beautiful Wings

EXTRAS:   Clear Embossing Powder, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Tombow, Sponge (Perfect Plum), Heat Tool, Pearl

What do you think of the frame?  Neat!  I used 2″ x 2″ squares.  Two squares in Whisper White and two squares in Elegant Eggplant.

Large Flower:  Stamp and cut each petal out and attach with Tombow on the bottom of the petals.  This then enables shaping the petals.

This flower is cut out with a slight edge.  Notice the corner.

STAMP SET(s):  Awash with Flowers, Sincere Salutations

INK:  Melon Mambo, River Rock, Elegant Eggplant

PAPER:  Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Elegant Eggplant

PUNCHES:  Scallop Trim Border, Scallop Trim Edge, 1” circle, Photo Corner

Yes, this set is going to become on of my favourites.

I showed my ladies, this week, do make this card that has an unusual fold.  With the addition of our Designer Series Paper and  butterflies the result – STUNNING!!

I am so in love with butterflies at the moment – any chance to make a butterfly card…. it’s created 🙂  Let me show you the inside of the card.

STEP 1 : Open the folded card.  On the left side of the card, measure 1″ down from the centre and 1″ across from the centre fold.  (Clear as mud I hear you say – hopefully the above picture will give you a better idea.  If not, you’re on your own! 🙂 )  Cut out the wedge/triangle.

Step 2:  Once the cut has been made, turn the card so that the front is facing upwards.  Fold down the flap.  IMPORTANT:  Make sure, that the flap is folded to meet the centre (arrow).  When you have the fold flush with the centre line of the card, take your bone-folder and crease across the flap.  If you try to fold the flap down in one go, you will get an uneven edge at the centre fold and the flap will not sit right.

Step 3: The yellow lines show how I placed the flap into the Embossing Folder.  You may have to move the folder when you put it onto the Big Shot plates.  Make sure that it will go through the rollers without catching your embossing folder or card.  (How do I know this?  Guess 🙂 )

Flap is embossed.  The card is now ready to dress-up!

I attached only the point of the flap to the front of the card.  Sticky strip is a good choice as I didn’t want the flap to ping open!

BUTTERFLIES:  I attached the butterfly using Tombow.

The Large Butterfly is attached by the bottom left-wing to the front of the card.

Use the small butterfly wing to attach to the inside of the card

When the card is opened, the main butterfly is seen from the inside too.  It appears to be floating.  Love it.

STAMP SET:  Well Scripted

INK:  Encore Silver

PAPER:  BASE – Black

PUNCH: Decorative

DIE: Beautiful Wings, Beautiful Butterflies

Basic Grey – Butterflies= 1 Large Butterfly, 3″sq; 2 Small Butterflies

EMBOSSING FOLDERS:  Elegant Line, Polka Dots

DSP:  Neutrals – Black and Grey stripe, 3 3/4″ x 3 1/4″

Looks just as good in another colour.

Phew… now that was a long post! ( I think I deserve a comment or two!)  🙂 Hugs

Challenge anyone?

I decided that I needed to be challenged so…. I entered a colour challenge!  These are the colours that had to be used in making a card.  Let me say, these are not colours that I would group together.  (Well maybe two or three together but not 5! Plus I added another colour – Confetti White!)  In the end I made two cards.  Mmm, the colour combo does grow on you 🙂

The first card I made, I used a retired stamp set and thought I had better do another one using a current set.  Same colours but two cards that a poles apart.

Odd, but it isn’t my kind of Style but I am sure that my mother would have loved it.  Can you see what I did with the punch?  Let me show you…

Punched through the card front and added the sentiment to the inside!  Different, eh?

Used a few dimentionals to give height to the sentiment.  Added the yellow card to conceal the ribbon edges.  Also added another yellow strip and flowers.  There is still room to write a message.

CARD: See above for colour combo PLUS Confetti White
INK:  Peach Parfait, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Shimmer Paint – Champagne Mist
EMBOSSING FOLDER: Framed Tulips, Polka Dots
EMBOSSITS:  Birds & Blooms, Little Leaves,
PUNCHES:  Scallop Oval, Oval large, Decorative Label, 1/2″ circle,  1/4″ circle, Scallop Trim Border.
RIBBON:  Daffodil Delight

EXTRAS:  Big Shot, sponges (for shading), Dimentionals, Tombow, Brayer (to edge the tulips), Brad – Square Fire.

Phew….. Now for CARD #2

The Ladies in my Tuesday class will be making a card similar to this one.  The layout and the technique.  Oops, I didn’t take a picture of the inside… it has the sentiment inside the card.

So have the colours grown on you?  Maybe I will use the combo to make a CLASS card?  Mmm, what do you think Ladies?
