This week, the ladies in my classes made a MALE card (though I think it can be given to anyone) Some called it the woodpecker card (more about why later).
STAMP SET: Life Definitions
INK: Old Olive, More Mustard
CARD: More Mustard (Base), Old Olive, Night of Navy, Very Vanilla
PUNCH: Wide Oval
DIES: Leaves #2, Sizzlits Little Leaves
EXTRAS: Mat Pack, Piercer, Twine, Scissors, Cutter Kit, Mini Dots, Spritzer, Sponges (or Daubers)
Base = More Mustard 4″ x 11″
Old Olive: 5 1/4″ x 2 1/4″ , Scrap – to free-draw an oval
Very Vanilla: 2 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, Scrap for Large Oval
Night of Navy: 2 3/4″ x 5 1/2″
Scrap of any colour for cutting out the little leaves. This will be used as a stencil.
1 Using the Big Shot and Leaves #2, cut out two leaves (the ones that look like gum leaves)
2 Place the leaves onto a tray and spray with water. Screw them up in your hand and leave for about 1/2 hr. Then open them up but do not flatten. Once dry (use the heat tool if you can’t wait!), sponge the edges with More Mustard and just lightly run the sponge over the leaves.
3 Using the ‘stencil’, sponge first with More Mustard and then with another sponge, using Old Olive, sponge over the leaves again to give definition. Move the stencil around on the Very Vanilla. (Don’t do a straight line) Make sure that when you use the sponge or dauber, that you TAP the colours onto the stencil. This is why the ladies called it the Woodpecker card! So much tapping going on. 🙂 Edge with More Mustard.
4 As SU! does not have a larger oval than the Wide Punch. To make a larger punch: punch our the wide oval and use dotto to mount onto Old Olive. Using scissors, cut around the oval leaving a small edge (Doesn’t have to be so exact as shown in the middle picture). Use the cutter kit to rough the edges on this oval and on the Night of Navy – long sides.
5 Stamp sentiment, edge with More Mustard and place on the Old Olive ‘oval’ . Tie twine around the Very Vanilla, attach onto Night of Navy.
6 Using mat pack and piercer, make two rows of dots on either side of the Base.
The ‘leaves’ do look like real leaves and they have that ‘crunch’. Just love this card.
